About
On this CD, Jacqueline Ogeil presents music by Sebastián de Albero, Lodovico Giustini, Giovanni Benedetto Platti and Domenico Scarlatti. What these works have in common is that they were all composed for the ‘first piano’. It is generally accepted that the archetype of the instrument that we nowadays refer to simply as the piano was invented by the Paduan Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655–1731). What is not generally understood is the speed with which the new instrument, known as the cembalo col piano e forte, came into fashion “throughout Europe”.
